I’m alone this weekend. I have the whole house all to myself! Aside from Sparta, anyways, but she doesn’t take up that much room. That can only mean one thing, staycation!
To be honest, I’ve been looking forward to this weekend stay-right-here (instead of getaway, get it?) for days now! I’ve been very carefully crafting all of the things that I want to do while on my staycation.
I’d like to think I’ve come up with the perfect list on how to have the best staycation ever!
Make a schedule
You guys are probably sick of hearing about how much I love planning stuff by now. I can’t help it. At this point, it’s basically a compulsion. Even when I’m trying to relax, I end up allotting how much time for each activity I want to get done.
I know there are some other organizers out there who love this idea. There are dozens of us. Dozens!
Making a plan for what you want to see or do can really help with fighting off those twinges of anxiety that vacations can prompt, even simple staycations!
Staycations are supposed to be relaxing!
Don’t plan a thing if planning’s not your style. Go with the flow, revel in the fact that you don’t have to do a single thing other than kick back, catch up on your reading, and soak up the relaxation. Go where you feel like and eat what you crave.
Here’s an exciting list of a bunch of fun, relaxing ideas on what you can do to make yourself feel special today!
Make fun cocktails!
One of the best parts of going on vacation is the assortment of amazing, delicious drinks that are available. Luckily, these are things that you can make right in your kitchen as well!
I know I’ll be enjoying a few margaritas this weekend 😉

Catch up on your hobbies!
Take some time to start knitting or drawing or writing again. Not only will this be relaxing for your staycation, but it’ll also give you a little productive buzz as well – especially for those of us who have a hard time putting our work away! Do that one thing that you love but you always seem to never have time for.

Cook up your favorite dish!
The best part of my weekend is going to be chicken and dumplings.
You heard me right. I am STOKED for dinner. In fact, as soon as I finish hitting publish on this post, I’m off to the store to get my ingredients.
I’m the only one in our house that even remotely likes chicken and dumplings, and because I’m a little bit of a people pleaser, I don’t make it for dinner for just that reason. That’s fine with me though, because I have a special, amazing dinner to have all for myself tonight!
Serve up your favorite food and savor it! Or to make your staycation even more peaceful, order takeout! Then you only have to toss the trash without cleaning dishes!
Watch your trashiest television!
Catch up on whatever guilty pleasure you’ve been denying yourself on the tube. I won’t judge! We all have that one show that we’ll never admit to watching, well go ahead and get your fill!
This could be that tourist trap you swore you’d never check out (despite that niggling intrigue), a newly opened brewery, or even just your favorite juice stand at the mall.
Go out and be a tourist for a day. Take tons of pictures, try new restaurants or cafes, and make your city feel fresh again! There are always lots of bistros, food trucks, and festivals that go unnoticed. Your city probably has a tourism or event page if you just do some quick Googling.
Staycations really are underrated. You save so much money by not having to travel anywhere, plus it’s way less stressful! I can’t wait to kick off my weekend.
Did I inspire your next staycation? How do you like to celebrate those rare relaxing days?
